Well proportioned, robust and with a plentiful but not excess coat.
History
The Lhasa Apso comes from Tibet where people live at high altitudes and the climate can be harsh. Its long hard coat, with a dense undercoat, acts as an insulator during the winter, and the hair that falls in front of its eyes protects it from wind, dust and light reflections. The Lhasa Apso is one of the many Eastern breeds that have come to the West. The first Apso arrived in Britain in the early 1920s and were exhibited in London shortly after. When they first appeared in Great Britain they were confused with other oriental long-haired dogs. A breed club for the Lhasa Apso was founded in Great Britain in 1933.
